The Romans and the Greeks  wrote about the people who lived in Galicia (the Kallaikoi or Gallaeci). They described them as fierce warriors. We are almost sure they painted their body to go into the battle but we are  not sure how they painted themselves or the colours they used. We don't know what types of design they used in their tattoos. They may have used similar swirly designs to those found on petroglyphs.

Would you like to be a fierce Iron Age warrior? You can use water based face paints to decorate your face.

You will need:
Water-based blue face paints
Hypo-allergenic baby wipes
Make up applicators, paintbrushes or your finger to apply the paints
Mirror
Face template
Blue pencil crayons or felt tips



 1. Copy the face template. Look at some pictures of  Galician petroglyphs on the Internet for some inspiration.
2. Draw the design for your face using your blue crayons or felt tips on the template. If you don’t want to paint your face you could design a tattoo for your hand or arm.
3. Ask a friend to paint the design on your face.

It’s the late Stone Age and Otter and his family are rowing up the river to their  _______________. It takes long to move so they get up ______________.    The boy´s name is Otter (Nutria) because they are named after plants, ___________and things in nature, like his _________ Bird Poo (Caca de Pájaro).  They are hunter gatherers. Otter is able to hunt and skin animals but he´s not a skilled hunter. Their cooker is a ___________. They heat the stone and it makes steam. They use a ____________to go up the river. The boat is made from a tree. They get to the Winter camp and they gather turfs for their huts and they cook _________, __________, and _________ over the big stone.

My name is Otter.We are still in the summer camp, but for me it´s not like being on holiday.
The early morning sun rises up as I get dressed in my leather dress.

I go outside to hear the birds tweeting in the distant fields.
I walk to the shed to collect the bucket.
I walk to the stream, I see the cow.She is chewing her grass.
My father is not at home, he is hunting with his friends.
I reach the stream. The bucket splashes as I bend down to get the water. I have a lot more chores to do after this:

Morning Chores:

1. Get the water from the stream
2. Milk the cow
3. Polish my father´s boots
4.Skin the rabbit
5. Heat the stone.
6.Make lunch on the cooking stone.

 Afternoon Chores:

1. Collect chicken eggs
2. Gather berries
3. Break. I can play with my little sister.
4. Sew clothes
5. Heat the stone
6. Poach/Fry the eggs on the cooking stone.

I have to do these chores every single day!!! There are no weekends or holidays!!!!
